My dear Brothers and Sisters,
A warm welcome to our parish website. You are now virtually connected with us, not just by chance but by choice. We are happy and deem it a privilege to share with you the information which draws a deeper connection with our parish family. Our parish was founded in 1738 and it is one of the oldest parishes in Pondicherry. For two centuries, our parish Our Lady of the Angels is very important both historically and politically for the city of Pondicherry. It is the only parish in India where we have masses in three languages French, English and Tamil.The architectural beauty of our Church built in 1855 is the apple of everyone’s eye. Facing the sea, it is a centre of attraction for the tourists and a peaceful place to pray and meditate.
If you are Catholic and live in the area, you are already one of the many "sheep" of this flock, and are entitled to the pastoral care of your priest. It is my blessed duty and great privilege to bring you closer to Jesus, particularly through the sacraments, blessings, family celebrations, and spiritual guidance. Historical Notes on our Lady of Angels Parish
About Us
Facing the rising sun, along the cost of Bay of Bengal, stands hte majestic towers of Our Lady of Angels, commonly known as the 'Kaps Kovil' - the Capuchins' Church. This is the fourth oldest church in Pondicherry Union Territory.
It is the only church that offers mass in three languages namely French, Tamil and English.
Pastoral Activities
Our church has a pastoral council with about 15 members who volunteered to be the consultative body to help take decisions for the prosperity of the Church.
If the diocesan bishop judges it opportune after he has heard the presbyteral council, a pastoral council is to be established in each parish, over which the pastor presides and in which the Christian faithful, together with those who share in pastoral care by virtue of their office in the parish, assist in fostering pastoral activity.
Boarding
Every child, which is born into this World does not enjoy the same privilege. Our Lady of Angels Boys Home one the oldest orphanages in the Union-Territory of Pondicherry, located in the south east coast of India run under the aegis of the Catholic Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore, India. Itis affiliated to the Parish of Our Lady of Angels Church located in the prime place of the old beautiful French colony.
The Orphanage for the past 175 years has breathed life into more than 8750 orphans, semi-orphans from the region of Pondicherry and Tamilnadu and refugees from Srilanka. We have sheltered 50 students for this academic year.
